HISTORY

The founders of CalMed Hawaii, Levy Bynum and her son David Scheidt, were born and raised on the Westside of Oahu. In 1978, Levy’s son/ David’s younger brother, Darren, became paralyzed at 10 years of age causing the family to relocate to Southern California for access to spinal specialists that were not available on island at that time. As Darren’s caretaker, Levy educated herself on best practices with regard to providing quality care and understanding how medical supply options contribute to the patient’s quality of life. In the late 1990s, Levy and Darren worked from a spare room in Levy’s Buena Park, CA residence subcontracting to a small medical supply company providing disposable medical supplies to patients.

DAVID GRADUATED WAIANAE HIGH SCHOOL AND CONTINUED ON TO EARN A BUSINESS DEGREE FROM PACIFIC UNIVERSITY IN OREGON. HIS CAREER PATH LED HIM TO A CORPORATE POSITION FOR ONE OF THE NATION’S LARGEST HMO/ PPO/ MEDICARE INSURANCE PROVIDERS. IN 2000, LEVY AND DAVID JOINED EFFORTS TO COMBINE THEIR COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCE WITH INSURANCE, MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND CAREGIVING TO CREATE CALIFORNIA MEDICAL SUPPLIES. THE COMPANY HAS STEADILY GROWN FROM ONLY SERVING WORKMAN’S COMP CLAIMANTS IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO INCLUDE THE MILITARY AND THEIR DEPENDENTS, ORTHOPEDICS, PULMONARY AND WOMEN’S HEALTH IN ALL 50 STATES.

We opened an office on Oahu in 2013 allowing us to bring our years of experience, relationships and knowledge in the medical supply industry back home to the people of Hawaii to provide access to products and service that is not always available on island. We are proud to offer the education and training we have spent years accumulating to provide Hawaii with the same respect and honor we have provided our active duty soldiers and their families.

TODAY WE HAVE OFFICES IN HAWAII, CALIFORNIA, ARIZONA , washington, AND COLORADO AND ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD THE THIRD GENERATION JOIN THE COMPANY TO CONTINUE OUR LEGACY IN HAWAII AND THE MAINLAND.
